Experiencing LARP

Gameplay & Experience

How you will experience LARP is difficult to estimate, but on this page we will try to manage your expectations.

What to Expect?

  • ✔ Roleplay and Lolplay: immersive storytelling combined with a tongue-in-cheek sense of humor.
  • ✔ Extensive game system: More than 25 paths offer variety in magical and non-magical roles.
  • ✔ Player-driven stories: create your own character, build relationships, and influence the world.
  • ✔ Event narrative: A team of game masters writes an overarching storyline for the event, along with smaller plotlines. It’s up to you to create your own story or weave yourself into these narratives.
  • ✔ Focus on safe LARP combat: Before each event, we provide clear instructions on safe combat. The organization spelleiders and fellow players actively help ensure these guidelines are followed.
  • ✔ Access to the monster tent: As an NPC, you have access to the monster tent, where props and costumes are available throughout the event to help bring your assigned roles to life.

Game Roles

During a Ravenskeep event you fulfill one of the following roles. Each role contributes to the game experience in its own way.

Player

As a player you create your own character and determine your own story. You build relationships with other players, join plotlines, and improvise interactions. Your imagination and choices are what bring the game to life. Preparation is not mandatory, but recommended — it helps to think about your character and story in advance.

Extra (NPC)

As an extra you play rotating roles assigned by game masters from the plotbook. You get access to the monster tent, where costumes, makeup, and LARP weapons are available. Some roles are more directed than others — sometimes you follow a written plot, sometimes you improvise entirely. After each role you return to the monster tent for the next one.

Game Master (GM)

Game masters are the storytellers who bring the world to life. They work with the HGM on the plot, direct scenes, guide players, and fill in sensory details that can't be physically represented. They coordinate NPCs and make rulings in unexpected situations. Game masters are recognizable by their green and white tabards.

Head Game Master (HGM)

The HGM is the creative force behind the event. They lead the team of game masters, coordinate the overarching story, and manage the monster tent. The HGM ensures the GOD tent is available for game questions, currency, and character sheets. Before and after the event, the HGM works on the plot and processes feedback.

Bar Crew

Bar crew runs the in-game tavern for the entire duration of the event. You prepare and serve food and drinks, manage bar cards, and can play a key role in the game — the tavern is a social hub where rumors are exchanged and information is brokered. We encourage bar crew to combine service with roleplaying.

Trader

As a trader you sell your own merchandise from a stall at the event. Your stall's decoration must fit the setting. You contribute to the atmosphere and the game world. Admission is evaluated by the board; your presence should enrich the game.
